Sue E. West Houston, Texas
Sue began working as a Legal Assistant at Simmons & Fletcher, P.C. in 1994, after graduating with honors from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. After graduation her goal was to change the world, to right the wrongs inflicted on innocent people. She decided to go to law school and began attending South Texas College of Law in 1997 and graduated in May 2001. Sue is Director of Information Processing in the Pre-Litigation section at the firm. She says this is a very challenging and yet very rewarding position "This is where everything begins," she explains. "If things don't start out right, they can't end right." An important part of her job is determining what needs to be done to maximize the recovery for our clients and their families. Whether this means compiling medical billing and records, deciding if scene photos or witness statements are needed or whatever it is, Sue and her team work diligently to process every case in a timely and professional manner. "We go to the insurance companies and ask them to do the right thing, putting our clients back as close to where they were before the accident as possible. As a result, eighty to ninety percent of our cases settle without litigation. We strive for that outcome because it saves our clients time and money. But if we didn't have the option of taking cases to court, we wouldn't have any leverage for taking them a step farther, when insurance companies refuse to do the right thing." "After an accident, people are frustrated and in pain. I want to empower people. I tell people, 'This accident has hurt you—but you can get up and go on and we 're here to help you do that.'" When Sue sees that a case has settled and justice has been served, she feels a deep sense of satisfaction. Sue is licensed to practice in all Texas Courts as well as the Southern Federal District Court. Sue and her husband Gary were married in 1980 and have one son together. They are members of a Baptist Church in the Katy area where they have lived for over 22yrs. Sue is a former toddler Sunday School Teacher and attends functions with the Katy Branch of the Texas Christian Women's Connection as often as she can.
