Alabama Bus Accident Involving Channelview High School Band Students
March 13th, 2018
Early this morning, a charter bus carrying Channelview High School band students plunged into a 50 foot Alabama ravine. There has been one confirmed fatality, and more than 20 people have been taken to hospitals in the surrounding area. The Texas high school students were returning home from a trip to Disney World when the bus crashed while traveling west on Interstate 10.
First responders rappelled down the ravine to reach the passengers, while multiple ambulances and helicopters transported students to approximately 10 different local hospitals and trauma centers. Channelview ISD has released little information regarding the accident, but have provided a call center for confirmed families:
Baldwin County Alabama Call Center – 251-972-6807
Footage from the crash shows the bus laying on its side in a grassy area at the bottom of the ravine. The bus’s front axle looked separated from the rest of the vehicle and at least two luggage compartment doors had been removed. Our hearts and prayers are with every passenger and family affected in this horrific crash.
