Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup Above-Ground Pool Recall
On July 21, 2025, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup, all popular above-ground pool companies, have issued a recall on several above-ground pool models due to a risk of small children being able to access the pool through the use of the compression straps and potentially causing life-altering injuries or even deaths due to drowning. These above-ground pools are sold nationwide at retail stores including Walmart, Target, Sears, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, The Home Depot, Costco, Kmart, Toys “R” Us, Big Lots, and others. Additionally, the recalled above-ground pools are sold online at Amazon.com, Wayfair.com, Bestway USA, Intex, Funsicle, and Summer Waves websites. The CPSC believes that nine children have drowned after gaining access to the pool through the compression straps, and that there were at least three other instances where children used the compression straps to gain access to the pool. Among the nine children who drowned, the youngest was only 22 months old, and the oldest was only three years old.
