Authorities from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office have reported a major fire following a loud boom at the K-Solv industrial plant in Channelview, Texas today. The blaze began around 4:00 p.m. and dark smoke continues to billow into the sky as firefighters fight the blaze. At this time the cause of the apparent K-Solv explosion and fire is unknown.
The company has not issued a statement at this time on its Facebook page nor the website. According to the website, K-Solv is “a leading provider of chemical distribution and maritime services, as well as renewable fuels.”
The plant is located at 16517 De Zavalla Road, Channelview, Texas 77530. It is advisable to avoid the area due to the unknown nature of the chemical fire. The smoke alone has the potential to cause major traffic delays and dangerous driving conditions. Several surrounding streets have been closed by emergency response teams as they seek to contain the blaze.
