Recall Notice To Owners
Owners of the Columbus Trading-Partners USA, Inc. CYBEX Sirona M Convertible Child Car Seat may receive a surprise letter from the manufacturer in the mail shortly. On May 9th, the company will begin sending out notice letters to known owners of the product recalling certain models of CYBEX Sirona M Convertible Child Car Seat due to an identified choking hazard.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) Trends Analysis Division indicated that there have been at least 15 early warning reports of injury related to the foam used in the headrests of these seats. Apparently, the design is such that children can pick out the foam which then presents a choking hazard to children. The ODI is opening an investigation to evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect.
Affected Model Numbers
The model numbers of the recalled seats include 518000385, 518002153, 518000387, 518002145, 518002149, 518002151, and 519000211. The affected models of car seats were manufactured from November 3, 2017, to August 31, 2018.
What To Do
If you are an owner of one of these car seats, please discontinue use immediately. You may further contact the company at 1-877-242-5676 for more information. The company plans to send kets that will purportedly seal the car seat pillow so that the foam cannot be picked out by the child
Defective Car Seats
Anytime a car seat is recalled it is important to discontinue use. Recalls of children’s products should always be taken seriously as the recall is generally an indication that some problem has occurred. Speak with an attorney who handles vehicle defects if you or a loved one’s child was injured by a recalled car seat.
