Product recalls are never a good thing for the manufacturer. Some are matters of serious safety concerns while some are for less alarming reasons like -the product or the way it is packaged and/or presented doesn’t meet with regulatory guidelines. However, they all cost the manufacturer money. Thus, making silly compliance mistakes in designing and packaging the product should be carefully avoided. Goodyear seems to be learning this the hard way. If you have heard that your Goodyear tires may have been recalled, it may not be as alarming as you think. The last couple of tire recalls issued by Goodyear have been due to silly reasons vs safety reasons.
The 2024 Goodyear Tire Recall
As many as 170,000 Goodyear tires have been recalled by the 2024 voluntary recall, however, it is not for safety reasons. Certain G622 RSD, Size 225/70OR19.5 LR G because a required tire identification number that is supposed to be on the tire was not added. Ironically, the purpose of the number is so that you can identify the tire easily in the event of a recall. Letters were mailed to the owners of record on June 1, 2024. The good news is that you can take your car to a Goodyear Tire dealer and they will give you a new set of tires in exchange for free.

The 2022 Kelly Armorsteel Tire Recall
Somehow during week 3419 of the manufacture of their Kelly Armorsteel KDM I, size 11R22.5 LR H tires, Goodyear printed the date conde on the required tire identification numbers too small. Federal regulations require that the TIN be printed at a certain height and. As a result, Goodyear had to recall all tires produced that week. The tire worked fine, it’s TIN just failed to meet the regulatory height.
The 2022 Goodyear Recall
In the same year as the above recall, Goodyear had to recall their own G159 275/70R22.5 tires. In this recall, Goodyear announced that there was no safety issue when used as directed, however, there was a problem when the tires were used while overinflated or underinflated with a class A mobile home.
The 2020 Goodyear Fortera HL Tire Recall
2020 appears to be the last recall for a major safety concern. In 2020, Goodyear recalled some of their Fortera HL size P255/65R18 109S tires that were manufactured during specific weeks. The reason for the recall given was that a tire machine malfunction caused the tires’ belts to be out of the specified width. Incorrect width on the tire belts can lead to the tires separating while in use. Tire separation, in turn, can cause a driver to lose control of his vehicle and crash. Tires with the following DOT numbers were recalled: 4BXMARDR4419 – 4519.
