Houston, TX (March 30, 2021) – Officers with the Houston Police Department are investigating a chain-reaction accident that occurred on Highway 290 late Sunday evening, March 28, and led to a little boy getting seriously injured.
The crash happened on eastbound Highway 290 near 34th Street around 8:30 p.m. A mattress on the freeway caused several drivers to stop, said Lt. C. Bruce with the Houston Police Department. One of the vehicles hit another stopped vehicle shortly afterward. The driver of one of the vehicles and her four children were transported to an area medical center via ambulance. Four sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, and one of the children, a 6-year-old boy, was listed in critical condition.
The incident was being investigated as a potentially fatal crash, closing the freeway for several hours. Houston police and the district attorney’s office are investigating.
