Fatal Bicycle Accidents in Houston
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recent fatality crash data, a notable increase in pedestrian fatalities has been reported year over year, including those from bicycle wrecks. In fact, bicycle fatalities in the Houston area peaked in 2016 at nearly 200, up from just 110 in 2010. Though the rate of these serious incidents has plateaued overall in the past decade, cyclist deaths hit a record high again last year. Almost 40 cyclists died in Houston in 2020 alone, more than double the number reported in 2019.
Furthermore, many of these fatal bicycle accidents were hit-and-run collisions, where the driver involved flees the scene, leaving victims and their families vulnerable. It’s clear that cycling in busy city centers across Texas, including the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth regions, can be risky.
Unfortunately, bicycle accident victims in Texas may suffer from long-term physical issues, costly medical bills, job loss, and sometimes, even death. But the victims and their families who are affected by a serious Texas accident can and should contact an injury lawyer in Houston for guidance.
