The area was closed for several hours as police investigated. However, further details have not been released, and the pedestrian has not been identified.
We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Houston
Per recent data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there has been a notable increase in pedestrian fatalities in the last decade. In fact, fatal pedestrian incidents in large city centers and growing metro areas, including the Houston area, have increased nearly 4% over the past 10 years. Furthermore, nearly 10% of the 8,000 pedestrian accidents that occurred in the Lone Star State in 2019 resulted in victim deaths. Traffic fatalities may be declining overall, but pedestrians remain vulnerable since they don’t have the protection of a car or the safer motor vehicle technology that prevents death from auto accidents.
