Houston Transtar reported a road closure of all lanes of 290 eastbound at Becker Road after a FedEx truck crashed around 1:00 a.m. on August 19, 2025. The accident appears to be a single-vehicle accident in which the FedEx Truck driver reported only minor injuries. Becker Road is west of the Grand Parkway (99) in Cypress, Texas. This wreck resulted in a major traffic jam for incoming cars and has still not been cleared as of 9:50 am. Eastbound traffic has been diverted to the access road to avoid the area.
First responders arrived to find the 18-wheeler completely engulfed in flames from the cab to the trailer. According to Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Firefighters were having to continuously monitor and respond as the trailer kept re-igniting itself due to the flammable content inside. Later in the morning, the firefighters received help from the weather in the form of rain to help prevent reignitions.
Investigating Causes of Early Morning 18-Wheller Collisions
At the present time, no cause of the FedEx 18-Wheeler truck accident has been determined. The driver was rushed to the hospital. Before he is released, it is typical for drivers to have not just medical care, but toxicology tests performed to determine whether drugs, alcohol, or medications may have played a role in the collision. After the scene is safe for investigators to look at it, police investigators will evaluate things such as skid marks and yaw marks on the road and the location of damage and debris to help determine how this single-vehicle accident may have happened. In fatal accidents, the investigation team will download the black box data from the truck’s electronic data recorder to help determine the movements of the vehicle and speed prior to the wreck. In this case, the police may not do as in-depth an investigation as they would in a fatal 18-wheeler accident since it appears that no other vehicles were involved and no serious injury occurred.
Accidents such as this are often a combination of factors. They may be a product of drowsy driving, wherein the driver simply drifted off and struck a rail or lost control and jackknifed. They may be the product of the weather conditions and other traffic actions that caused the driver to make a sudden steering adjustment, causing the FedEx truck to rollover.
Accident Response Teams
It is common for commercial truck companies to deploy accident response teams of their own when there is a serious 18-wheeler accident involving one of the trucks and there are serious injuries. They will do their own investigation in which their goal is to try to do damage control for the company. For this reason, it is important that victims of serious FedEx truck accidents hire their own FedEx truck accident lawyer to investigate the accident as quickly as possible. Having your own truck accident response team means that they are there to preserve the evidence so that it does not get lost or destroyed.
