Pedestrian Fatalities in Texas
According to recent data released by officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and troopers, there has been a notable increase in pedestrian fatalities in the last decade. In fact, fatal pedestrian incidents in large city centers and growing metro areas of the Lone State State, including the Houston area, have increased nearly 4% over the past 10 years.
Furthermore, nearly 10% of the 8,000 pedestrian accidents that occurred in Texas in 2019 resulted in the deaths of those involved. Traffic fatalities may be declining overall across the state, but pedestrians remain vulnerable since they don’t have the protection of a car or the safer motor vehicle technology that prevents death from auto accidents.
It’s clear that serious accidents and pedestrian injuries or fatalities are all too common in Texas. From long-term physical issues and costly medical bills for those who survive these incidents to job loss or even death, the victims and their families who are affected by a serious Texas accident suffer catastrophic consequences.
