Richmond, TX (April 7, 2021) – Officials have released further details after a major head-on crash occurred on Monday morning, leaving one driver dead.
According to a report released by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, a driver in a black Lexus was traveling southbound, attempting to pass another vehicle on FM 359, a two-lane highway, near Settegast Ranch Road just after 5:00 a.m. At that time, the Lexus crashed head-on into a silver Mazda, which was traveling northbound. The Mazda burst into flames, deputies say, and the driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lexus was airlifted to Memorial Hermann with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
The driver of the car the Lexus attempted to pass called emergency services after the incident occurred, deputies say.
Fort Bend County deputies are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
