Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. Proudly Sponsors Walk MS Houston

This weekend, Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. will attend the last of three Walk MS events in support of the National MS Society. Serving as the world’s largest private funder of Multiple Sclerosis research, each year the National MS Society hosts more than 500 Walk MS events with over 300,000 total participants. Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. attended Walk MS: The Woodlands on October 28 to help raise awareness and cultivate relationships with the other teams supporting those diagnosed with this disease. We were excited to host participants at our booth and share with them who we are as a law firm, as well as why we support the battle against MS.

What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that disables the transmission of information within the brain, and between the brain and the body. The cause of this disease is still unknown to scientists and its affect on the body is different for everyone. These complexities make finding a cure for MS much more difficult, which is why Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. is doing our part to help raise awareness and support for those who have been diagnosed.

Where Does Walk MS Fundraising Go?

According to the National MS Society’s website, “84 cents out of every dollar we raise goes directly to improve the lives of people living with MS through programs, services and research.” The remaining 16 cents is used for administration fees and fundraising.

Simmons and Fletcher, P.C.’s Walk MS: Houston Team

Simmons and Fletcher, P.C.’s own Settlement Specialist and MS Walk Team Captain, Sarah Olson, has been serving on the Walk MS committee for 2 years. “It is really special for Simmons and Fletcher to be a part of an organization that is so important to me. One day we will have a cure, until then, I get to bring awareness with the support of my coworkers.”  We are proud of Sarah’s contributions to Walk MS and proud of all of our team members who participated in the Walk MS: Houston event.

The Walk MS: Houston Event

Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. team

On November 5, our team sponsored and participated in the Walk MS: Houston event, located at the University of Houston Main Campus. More than 20 teams came out dressed in orange from head-to-toe, ready to fundraise. The Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. team consisted of 7 employees who participated in the 3 mile walk through the university’s campus. Our team members were excited to interact with other participants and learn more about Multiple Sclerosis. The total amount raised during the Walk MS: Houston event was more than $116,000. The Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. team will continue our fundraising efforts until our completion in the last Walk MS event in the greater Houston area. The Walk MS: Kemah Event

Our last Walk MS event is Walk MS: Kemah at the Kemah Boardwalk on Saturday, November 18. While our team will not be walking in the race, we will have a booth where you can stop by, say hello and learn more about our law firm. It has been such a joy to participate in this year’s Walk MS events, as well as support those who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are grateful to be able to contribute to such an important charity and look forward to continuing our support in the years to come.
