Spring, TX (April 19, 2021) – Two people were killed in a fiery crash involving a Tesla on Saturday evening, April 17, according to Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman.
Officers say that the wreck happened around 11:25 p.m. in the Carlton Woods Subdivision on Hammock Dunes Place. Constable Herman said that a 2019 Tesla Model S was traveling on the roadway and at some point, the vehicle came to a slight curve and went off the roadway, crashed into a tree, and burst into flames.
Herman said that it took firefighters nearly four hours and more than 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire caused by the wreck. Crews eventually had to call Tesla to ask how to extinguish the flames.
Once the fire was under control, deputies recovered two bodies from the Tesla, and neither one was behind the wheel. Herman said that one victim was found in the front passenger seat and the other person was located in the backseat. Deputies have only confirmed that one of the victims was 59 years old and the other was 69 years old, though they did not provide their identities.
Officers are continuing to investigate the accident and have not released further details.
