The History of the Lakewood Forest Neighborhood in Houston, TX
Lakewood Forest is a Houston neighborhood with a rich, community-oriented history. After the American Civil War, a group of freed African-American families from Alabama and Mississippi settled in the land along Cypress Creek, purchasing the territory and naming it “The Bottoms.” The family of Willis Woods then donated additional land to the neighborhood, which led to the development of a church, cemetery, school, and Farmers Improvement Society.
Eventually, the local residents realized that Cypress Creek was prone to flooding, so they moved most of their homes further north. However, the local school and church remained in the original neighborhood of The Bottoms. As of today, Lakewood Forest has evolved into a well-established suburban neighborhood with a quiet atmosphere, family-focused events, peaceful oak groves, and numerous community amenities (like swimming pools, tennis courts, and biking trails) for its 57,645 residents.

Truck Accidents
Large trucks often travel along Grant Road or State Highway 249, both of which cut through and around the Lakewood Forest neighborhood. When these trucks collide with smaller vehicles, the results can be catastrophic. And, unfortunately, Houston sees more of these truck collisions than any other area in the country—Texas was the state with the most truck crash fatalities in 2023.
Motorcycle Accidents
Even a casual ride through the Lakewood Forest neighborhood can turn tragic if another driver isn’t paying attention to smaller and less protected vehicles on the road. Motorcyclists face greater risks and more serious injuries in motor vehicle collisions—and, often, they’re unfairly blamed for these crashes. If you’ve experienced a motorcycle accident in Houston, we’ll fight to make sure that your voice is heard and that your injuries are taken seriously.
Slip & Fall
A trip to the grocery store or a stop at your favorite café in Lakewood Forest shouldn’t end in a visit to the E.R. But when property owners ignore safety issues—like wet floors, broken stairs, or poorly-lit passages—slip and fall accidents can happen quickly. If you tripped and fell on someone else’s property, we’ll help you figure out whether you have a valid legal claim and what your potential compensation could look like.
Wrongful Death
You can never be prepared for the sudden loss of someone you love, especially when their death was avoidable and caused by someone else’s reckless and negligent behavior. If your family and loved ones are grieving the wrongful death of someone in your lives, Simmons & Fletcher can help you pursue justice.
Damages Available in Lakewood Forest Personal Injury Cases
You may be entitled to economic and non-economic damages, including medical bills, lost wages, mental anguish, and more.
- Lost wages and diminished earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Medical expenses (past and future)
