Taxotere Lawsuit Lawyers

Taxotere is the brand name for Docetaxel, a chemotherapy drug manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis. The FDA approved Taxotere in 1996 and since has approved its use to treat breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, stomach cancer, and head and neck cancers. While Taxotere performed better than other drugs in its class when extending the survival of breast cancer patients, its side effects include permanent hair loss (alopecia). If you have suffered permanent hair loss due to Taxotere use, a Taxotere lawsuit lawyer may be able to help you recover compensation. What is Taxotere?

Currently one of the most prescribed drugs in its class, Taxotere is given by injection about once every three weeks to help reduce the growth of cancerous cells within the body. The amount and frequency of Taxotere depend on the severity and location of cancer within the body. Taxotere works by preventing cancerous cells from dividing and multiplying.

Taxotere Lawsuits

Although Taxotere is one of the most prescribed drugs used to treat breast cancer, there are more than 1,600 Taxotere lawsuits filed against Sanofi-Aventis accusing them of failing to warn patients about the risk of alopecia and other toxic side effects. Plaintiffs claim that Sanofi-Aventis knew of the possible side effects, as they had warned women in other countries of the alopecia risk, and failed to warn patients in the U.S. Litigation on these cases is ongoing and no settlements have been reached.

FDA Black Box Warning

The FDA gives black box warnings to a drug or device that has side effects that may cause serious injury or death. Taxotere has been given a black box warning for the following conditions: toxic death, hepatotoxicity, neutropenia, hypersensitivity reactions, and fluid retention.
