Attorney for Zostavax Claims

Zostavax is a vaccine used to prevent shingles in adults over the age of 50. It is not meant for children, and works by boosting the body’s immunity against the shingle virus herpes zoster. Zostavax was the only approved shingles vaccine in America until October 2017; however, patients are now filing suit against manufacturer Merck & Co. for their failure to provide warnings of Zostavax’s dangerous side effects. If you have suffered severe side effects as a result of taking Zostavax, talk to a Zostavax lawsuit lawyer today. You may have legal recourse. What is Zostavax?

Zostavax is a single dose injection given to older patients hoping to prevent the development of shingles. It does so by using a weakened form of the herpes zoster virus to trigger the immune system to respond. The vaccine works on about 50 percent of patients and only lasts about six years.

Zostavax Dangerous Side Effects

Dangerous side effects associated with Zostavax include the development of shingles, eye disorders and severe muscle pain. Manufacturer Merck & Co. did not list these known side effects until December 2014, almost eight years after the vaccines approval. Some plaintiffs claim that Zostavax has even caused blindness and brain damage.

Zostavax State and Federal Lawsuits

Lawsuits have been filed against Merck & Co., as well as their owner Bayer in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania. Claims against the manufacturers focus on their knowledge of the risks associated with Zostavax and their intentional misrepresentation of those risks. Damages sought include medical bills, lost wages and other pain and suffering victims may have endured.
