According to recent reports, several ZLINE gas ranges have been recalled after an important safety concern was discovered. The product recall includes ZLINE gas ranges with the following model numbers: RGB-30, RG30, RGS-30, RG36, RGS-36, and RGB-36. This product recall includes models that were sold in two sizes: 30 inches and 36 inches.
Not all ZLINE gas ranges are included in the recall. Only ranges with the above model numbers are impacted. It is recommended that consumers immediately stop using the oven compartment of these models, but it is okay to continue using the range tops.
The recall goes on to explain that the problem with the oven compartment is that it can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide while in use. So far, the company has received at least 44 reports of carbon monoxide emissions. Three of these reports resulted in hospitalization.
Hazards of Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a type of gas that can cause harm when you inhale it in excess. If carbon monoxide cannot escape the space you are in, it will build up and can cause specific symptoms. According to the CDC, the symptoms of CO poisoning can range from mild to fatal. Common symptoms can range from “flu-like” stomach cramps and vomiting to serious confusion, mental blackouts, time loss, and even a loss of consciousness.
Individuals who are intoxicated or sleeping are much more vulnerable to CO poisoning.
Legal Options After Suffering CO Poisoning From a Recalled Product
Are you worried that you may have been injured after suffering CO poisoning from a recalled ZLINE oven? Product liability laws might provide some legal recourse for you depending on your situation. Consumers who purchase a product and use it as outlined in the instructions are expected to experience a reasonable level of safety. If they do get injured by a product defect or malfunction, they may be able to pursue compensation for the losses they suffer if they can prove that the product manufacturer or distributor knew or should have known of the danger but sold the item anyway.
What Damages Are Recoverable in a Product Liability Case?
If you do have the basis for a product liability claim, you might be eligible to receive compensation for losses such as medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. The damages you may receive will depend on the severity of your injury. Someone who suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of CO poisoning, for instance, would likely be eligible for more compensation than someone who was hospitalized for temporary chest pain.
