FAQ's

What courts do you file a Katy personal injury case in?

In general, a Katy personal injury lawsuit may be filed either in the county where the defendant resides or where the accident happened. Because Katy actually sits across three different counties, depending upon what part of Katy your accident happened in your case, it may be filed in the Harris County Courts, Fort Bend County Courts, or Waller County Courts. The amount in controversy will further determine whether the case must be filed in County Court or District Court within each county. If the defendant is from out of state, it may be filed and sometimes may be removed to the U.S. Federal District Court in Downtown Houston.

How long do you have to file a Katy personal injury lawsuit?

There is a two-year window following a personal injury within which you must file a lawsuit, or your claim is barred by the statute of limitation in Texas. However, there are some exceptions to this, such as minors who get until their 20th birthday for certain claims, certain medical malpractice cases where the harm/negligence was undiscoverable, and sexual assault crimes that have longer statutes of limitations.

Can you help me find medical providers in the Katy area?

Yes. Access to care can be difficult after an accident because health insurance carriers routinely refuse to pay when they believe a third party is at fault. As a result, even your family doctor may refuse to see you after a car accident because they do not want to have to fight the insurance companies for payment. Since we have been fighting for the injured since 1979 in the Katy area, we are familiar with the doctors, chiropractors, and specialists who will work on a letter of protection to treat you while your claim is pending. We can help you find someone who will treat you if you need it.

What Sort of Things Can I Seek Compensation For?

Your Katy injury attorney can ask a jury to award an array of damages that you have incurred and will incur in the future, including:
