Presa Canario Bites

Presa Canarios

The Presa Canario a/k/a Perro de Presa Canario is a very powerful dog breed. The name means “Canary Dog.”   But. don’t let the dainty name fool you. These dogs are extremely large, dominant, and stubborn, and a Presa Canario attack can cause very serious injury or even death. As adults, the males weigh 100-140 lbs typically and stand roughly 2 feet tall. The females tend to be slightly smaller in mass weighing 85-120 lbs.  They were often misused as fighting dogs until around the 1940s. Add those characteristics to a negligent dog owner who does not train and/or care for them properly and you have a recipe for disaster.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of a Presa Canario attack, you may have certain legal rights against the owner of the dog. To learn more about how to make a claim after a Presa Canario attack, it is very important that you speak with a  Presa Canario attack lawyer as soon as possible when an attack occurs.

Nature of the Presa Canario

Presa CanarioThe Presa Canario has a strong alpha nature. Thus, it is important that he be properly walked and not allowed to do the leading. They can be good pets due to their docile nature with familiar people,  their strong sense of loyalty, and their protective nature. However, they are extremely distrustful of strangers. This combined with their intimidating deep-toned bark, protective instinct, and sheer size often leads to people choosing them as guard dogs.  Most are not aggressive by nature. It is important that if a Presa Canario shows signs of aggressive behavior the dog be properly socialized and trained by its owner to prevent unwanted Presa Canario attacks.  If trained to be aggressive or if signs of aggression are not dealt with early on, these animals can be dangerous dogs.
